Our Story

A family market rooted in the Outer Banks — fresh seafood, honest prices, and a community we've called home since 1987.

How It Started

Built on the Water,
Built for Duck

Dockside 'N Duck opened its doors in 1987 with one goal: bring the freshest seafood the Outer Banks had to offer directly to the people who live here and visit every summer.

Back then — and still today — the idea was simple. Skip the middleman. Work directly with the fishermen. Sell what came off the boats that morning, price it fairly, and treat every customer like a neighbor. Because most of them are.

Duck, NC is a small town on a narrow strip of barrier island. The community here is tight-knit, the summers are busy, and the seafood is extraordinary. We've been proud to be part of this place for nearly four decades.

What We Stand For

The Way We Do Things

Fresh. Always.

We don't carry frozen seafood when fresh is available. If it didn't come off a boat recently, it doesn't go in our case. That's been the rule since day one and it hasn't changed.

Know Your Source

We know the fishermen we buy from by name. We know which boats they run, where they fish, and how they handle their catch. That relationship is what makes the difference in quality.

Community First

Duck is a small town. Our customers are our neighbors — year-round residents, returning vacationers, and everyone in between. We treat every person who walks through the door like family.

How We Source

Straight From the
Outer Banks Waters

The Outer Banks sits at the confluence of the warm Gulf Stream and the cold Labrador Current — one of the most productive fishing grounds on the East Coast. The variety and quality of seafood here is genuinely exceptional.

We source locally whenever the season allows. Brown shrimp from Pamlico Sound. Blue crab from the estuaries. Flounder, drum, and tuna from the nearshore and offshore boats that work out of the Outer Banks every day.

When local isn't available — off-season or for species that don't run here — we source from trusted suppliers who meet the same standards we hold our local fishermen to. We'll always tell you where something came from if you ask.

Part of This Town
for Nearly 40 Years

Duck is unlike anywhere else on the Outer Banks. It's quieter, more residential, and deeply proud of what makes it special — the sound, the wildlife, the pace of life, and the people who keep coming back year after year.

We've watched this town grow and change over the decades. We've served the families who've been coming here since before Duck Road was even paved. We've seen kids grow up, bring their own kids, and introduce them to the market for the first time. That continuity means everything to us.
